It lives in woodlands, savannahs and flood plains. They are insectivorous. Colony nesters, they excavate long horizontal tunnels with the bill in river banks. Sexes similar. Here is a juvenile, with duller colours.

Vit dans les régions boisées, la savane et les plaines jouxtant les cours d'eau. Insectivore nichant en colonies. Fait son nid dans de longs terriers le long des berges, qu'il creuse avec son bec. Sexes identiques. Ici, c'est un juvénile, avec des couleurs plus ternes.
