Endemic species to South Africa. It lives in estuaries, lagoons, coast lines and islands, where it is resident. It nests on the ground in bare depression. It feeds on molluscs and earthworms. This species is classified as Near Threatened.
Endémique de l'Afrique du Sud. Il vit dans les estuaires, les lagunes, les lignes côtières et les îles où il est résident. Il nidifie sur le sol dans une dépression nue. Il se nourrit de mollusques et de vers de terre. Cette espèce est classée comme étant prochainement menacée d'extinction.
